Integrated Chief Investment Officer™ for RIAs, multi-family offices, trust departments and family offices

Integrated CIO™: Outsourced CIO for RIAs, Multi-Family Offices and Trust Departments

Senior investment leadership that becomes a seamless extension of your staff — capital market assumptions, asset allocation, models, systematic tax-loss harvesting strategies, manager research and a skilled, experienced CIO who is accountable to your investment committee and your clients.

Integrated Chief Investment Officer™ (iCIO™) is Vistamark’s outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) service for registered investment advisers, multi-family offices, bank and trust-company wealth divisions, and family offices. Vistamark works as an integrated extension of the firm’s own team — in its investment committee and client meetings, and on site where that helps — rather than as a separate product or platform. Financial institutions with billions in client assets have retained Vistamark as their Integrated Chief Investment Officer™.

Frequently asked

Questions we hear first

Short answers here; longer treatments in our Choosing an Investment Advisor research.

What is the difference between an outsourced CIO and an Integrated CIO™?
A traditional outsourced CIO (OCIO) typically manages many relationships off site. An Integrated CIO™ serves a limited number of firms and works inside them — leading or staffing the investment committee, meeting advisors and clients, and spending time on site — so the investment function behaves like your own department. Our explainer “What Is an Integrated Chief Investment Officer?” defines the model, and “The Value of Integrated Chief Investment Officer Services” explains how it works in practice.
How is an Integrated CIO™ different from a TAMP or model marketplace?
A TAMP sells administration and a shelf of model portfolios. An Integrated CIO™ is the purchase of an investment department — assumptions, allocation, research, rebalancing discipline, documentation and a senior person accountable when a client’s situation does not fit the model. Vistamark is the latter, and works alongside whatever platform you already use.
Will our clients know we use an outside CIO?
That is your choice. Many firms present Vistamark as their Integrated CIO™ or research partner; others prefer a white-label arrangement. Either way, disclosures follow your compliance program.
Do you take custody or discretion?
Vistamark does not take custody. Discretion is scoped to your needs — from pure research and recommendations to discretionary model management within your investment policy.
What size firm is a fit?
Firms large enough that the investment function is a real operation with a real cost, and small enough that the cost is visible on one page of the budget — typically $100 million to $5 billion in advised assets, or family offices of $100 million or more.

The assumptions behind the advice

Before you hire any OCIO, ask to see their capital market assumptions. Ours are public — our CIO presents them every year.
